#onesongaday Challenge in January

2019-01-25 14:07
Från [email protected] (schlin)
For the new year 2019 I decided that I would write one song a day in January, six days a week. Here I want to share some of the insights I've had since doing it.

The original idea came from a story I heard about a man who decided that he would lift up a pot of flowers, everyday. As the action could seem entirely useless he did it to test his discipline to create a new habit. If he forgot to do it one day, he would just carry on as usual on the next, not blaming himself or try to compensate.

I am currently on my 23rd song, and I am almost surprised how easy it has been. It's like I made a decision and no matter what would happen I would follow it. The writing almost became like a mirror of reflections to my life.

Even days when I felt too tired, I would think of the man with the pot and I'd say to myself: "Hey, lets sit at the piano for only 5 minutes, and if nothing comes out its okay to only write one note".

I've also learned to listen more closely to my body "Am I really too tired to write a song or am I just pitying myself?" At the times where I actually didn't feel like it I would use my "day of rest" knowing that I could keep going for the rest of the week.

I have also started to care less about what people think about me (both the good and the bad!) as I am doing this for myself, and only myself. Even though I'd like a song very much, I'd still have to let go of it to focus on writing a new one the next day. And of course the same goes for the bad ones.

The emotional attachment to the songs then become less influential. I don't "take the songs personally". If I did, I'd be devastated as soon as something "bad" would come out, and I'd probably given up this challenge already.

That way of thinking is also changing the way I'm looking at other people. I've realized that everyone wears their own glasses with judgements, opinions, values, fears etc. so regardless if I wrote a song that I really liked, not everybody is going to feel the same way about it. Everyone are not going to like my ideas or my way of living. And that's okay because we are all different, and I have to do things that makes me happy and gives me purpose. If so, I might be able to spread it to others, and they could find what makes them happy and gives them purpose.

Also, if I can do this. A challenge that I really didn't believe I could take on. Then I could do anything I set my mind to.

If you connected or completely disagreed with this, please share your comments below. What makes you happy? Did you have a recent insight?

Eye of the Storm - Music Video out!

Eye of the Storm
Karmacloud released their third track of 2017, 'Eye of the Storm' on November 17th to all digital platforms.

Eye of the Storm is a contemplation on how we, in search for the "perfect" life, can forget to be grateful for what we already have. Behind its stories the lyric questions our own behavior in society, our attitudes towards ourselves, and how they relate to the Bigger Picture of humanity. "Am I doing something meaningful to the world?" "Can I give this life my full loving intention?"

- It's easy to take it for granted /
Each day we're still alive -

Often it's more important to create a space of love, understanding and forgiveness, than to stay in the illusion of calm at the eye of the storm we've created.

The video for Eye Of The Storm was directed and shot by Florinda Frisardi at the stunningly beautiful Grunewald Forest in Berlin, Germany. Recorded at Falster, Denmark in a big old farmhouse pop-up studio.

the story so far...
Eye Of The Storm is the third release from Karmacloud this year.
Karmacloud are known for their vibrant live performances and consist of three independent songwriters: Linnéa Lundgren (SE), Rumle Langdal (DK) and Danny Forde (IE). They first discovered their musical affinity at the creative melting-pot Berklee College of Music in Boston.  Since then they have released an EP and 2 singles, toured in Denmark, Sweden, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium and USA. They have collaborated with other artists including singer/songwriter Lau Noah in New York, Swedish artists HanaOceans and Flora Cash. These recent releases are the fruits of a burst of creativity when Karmacloud retreated to a farm-house studio in the Danish countryside to write and record new music. A brand new EP is scheduled for release in 2018, recorded by a beach in west of Sweden.

Summer and Fall news

Från [email protected] (schlin)
Wow. Time just flies by. Lots of things have happened and lots more will come.

Karmacloud
This summer consisted of concerts and recording sessions in Stockholm. We had a blast at PSB (old Pet Sounds Bar), where we presented newly written material as well as the classics. We followed up with some live recorded livingroom sessions (maybe time to make a live album?) and finally put vocals to Rumle's song "Holding back your storm". Making music with these guys is always a blast and I feel so lucky to be working with them. As our longdistance relationship continues, things take more time to finalize, but hopefully we will have three singles ready by next month!

HanaOceans
Another beauty I am lucky to work with. Hanna and I have had several shows during the summer, not to mention our writing sessions and the live arrangements we have worked out from Pablo's productions. It is always an interesting challenge to make live versions of electronic productions, but it does work. Hanna is a master of lyrics and melody so there will be lots of more powerful songs coming out.

...and all that jazz.
While letting my New York plans wait, I am once again exploring the Swedish music scene, artist-coaching a new Swedish band, playing sessions with jazzcats and enjoying the time with my family and friends. Lots of "fika" is needed as the darkness comes earlier for each day, but it's definitely cozy!

Struggling musician in New York

2015-09-21 03:09
Från [email protected] (schlin)
Yep. That's where I am right now. And it is indeed a struggle, when you wait for your security deposit to be returned back to you, and you at the same time have to pay a new security deposit, first months rent etc. And then there is that tiny little fact that you haven't got yourself a proper job yet. As musicians that's something we'll never have (I guess we have to change the definition of what a proper job is).
But money or not, my heart is here and I am happy and excited to get started. Musicians where are you? Lets meet and make music together in dirty bars for small money. And lets make it a thing, so that people want to see more of us, and pay us better. Art is important so we should take care of it.
